The nominees for this years' Mercury Prize have been announced, revealed by Lauren Laverne on her BBC Radio 6 show this morning. It’s a fairly surprising shortlist, out of contention are early favourites Everything Everything and Sleaford Mods, who both didn’t manage to make the final list of twelve. As expected Aphex Twin and Wolf Alice are nominated with their albums Syro and My Love Is Cool respectively, other big name inclusions come from Florence + the Machine with How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, Jamie xx with his debut album In Colour and Ghostpoet with Shedding Skin. Also nominated for album of the year are records from C Duncan, Eska, Róisín Murphy, Benjamin Clementine, Soak, Gaz Coombes and Slaves.

The winner will be decided on 20 November at London’s Radio Theatre at Broadcasting House. See the full list of nominations below.
