Facebook Has Bought Popular Face Swapping App MSQRD

Face swapping is coming to Facebook.

In an effort to remain relevant and compete with the likes of Snapchat, Facebook has splashed out some more cash and bought Masquerade, the company behind the popular face swapping app which is currently dominating the Apple App Store. As Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg demonstrates in the video below, the app allows you to overall your face with a filter or the the face of a celebrity or friend. Once the app blew up in the App Store, Snapchat were quick to implement it into their own app, which has proved hugely popular.

"At Masquerade, we’ve worked hard to make video more fun and engaging by creating filters that enhance and alter your appearance," said Masquerade, which is only a few months old, in a blog post. "Now, we’re excited to join forces with Facebook and bring the technology to even more people. Within Facebook, we’re going to be able to reach people at a scale like never before."

Expect to see the ability to "face swap" hit Facebook soon!
