Over the past year or two, adidas has been pumping a lot of cash into its marketing campaigns, and it looks like it's finally beginning to pay off as the German sportswear brand just announced its biggest quarterly revenues ever. In Q1 of this year, the company took in a staggering $5.48 billion USD - that's a 17% jump on last year.

"Strong double-digit growth in key markets and key categories underlines the broad-based momentum and the strong desirability of our brands and products around the globe," said Herbert Hainer, adidas Group CEO. "I am particularly pleased with our strong development in North America. This shows that our focus on this important market is paying off. Our strong Q1 performance is the ideal platform for strong and sustainable top- and bottom-line improvements – in 2016 and beyond."

So, what's caused the sudden surge in revenue? Well, the ubiquitous popularity of the Stan Smith amongst the fashion crowd certainly hasn't done its image any harm, and apparently they sold 400,000 pairs of the adidas NMD sneaker in a single day - which is certainly not a figure to be sniffed at. That said, the company still has a way to go to catch up Nike, who boasted $30bn USD revenue in 2015 compared to adidas's approximately $19.3bn USD.
