The Best Indie Films Being Released in March 2017

There are some huge blockbuster films coming out this month - Logan, Kong: Skull Island and Beauty and the Beast to name just a few - so we thought we'd spend a minute to highlight some of the independent films being released. Granted, some of these will have a pretty wide release and could be seen as not strictly "independent", but with directors like Terrence Malick they're definitely worth checking out.

Raw (10 March)

Director: Julia Ducournau
Starring: Garance Marillier, Ella Rumpf, Rabah Nait Oufella
Synopsis: "When a young vegetarian undergoes a carnivorous hazing ritual at vet school, an unbidden taste for meat begins to grow in her."

Personal Shopper (10 March)

Director: Olivier Assayas
Starring: Kristen Stewart, Lars Eidinger, Sigrid Bouaziz
Synopsis: "Revolves around a ghost story that takes place in the fashion underworld of Paris."

Alone in Berlin (10 March)

Director: Vincent Perez
Starring: Emma Thompson, Daniel Brühl, Brendan Gleeson
Synopsis: "Berlin, 1940. Working class couple Otto and Anna Quangel receive the news that their only son has lost his life in the battlefield and decide to resist the Nazi regime in their very own way. Soon the Gestapo is hunting 'the threat'."

Song to Song (17 March)

Director: Terrence Malick
Starring: Ryan Gosling, Natalie Portman, Michael Fassbender, and Rooney Mara
Synopsis: "Two intersecting love triangles. Obsession and betrayal set against the music scene in Austin, Texas."

Free Fire (17 March)

Director: Ben Wheatley
Starring: Enzo Cilenti, Sam Riley, Michael Smiley
Synopsis: "Set in Boston in 1978, a meeting in a deserted warehouse between two gangs turns into a shootout and a game of survival."

Wilson (24 March)

Director: Craig Johnson
Starring: Woody Harrelson, Sandy Oian, Shaun Brown
Synopsis: "A lonely, neurotic and hilariously honest middle-aged man reunites with his estranged wife and meets his teenage daughter for the first time."

The Discovery (31 March - Netflix)

Director: Charlie McDowell
Starring: Jason Segel, Rooney Mara, Riley Keough, Robert Redford
Synopsis: "A love story set one year after the existence of the afterlife is scientifically verified."
