Apple Announces New Social Video App "Clips"

Social videos are huge at the moment, and Apple wants to get in on the action.

Today, the company announced a new app called Clips, which essentially combines features from various social networks including Instagram, Snapchat, and Vine (RIP), to let you create fun videos or photos with captions and filters.

As the name of the app suggests, the idea is to string multiple different clips together (up to 60 minutes). This can then be saved and shared on any social network, or simply sent to your friends via iMessage.

So, does this app do anything the others can't? Actually, yes. It has a feature called Live Title which allows you to record your own voice, which is then translated into rolling captions on your video clips. According to initial user reports, however, this is one of the least intuitive features, with users preferring to simply type in the captions.

The Apple Clips app will be available in April for free.

Apple also unveiled a new line of iPads with a cheaper starting price.
