As well as introducing the incredibly powerful new iMac Pro and HomeHub speaker, last night Apple showcased its brand new iOS 11 for iPad and iPhone.

Apple says this is "the biggest software release ever for iPad", including multitasking features (such as a customisable Dock), the Files app, and more ways to use the Apple Pencil.

Additional features for both the iPad and iPhone include the ability to pay friends using Apple Pay, Do Not Disturb while driving, even more intelligence and a new voice for Siri, and new professional capabilities to Photos and Camera. Here's a full breakdown of what's new:

Improved iPad Multitasking:

  • A new, fully customisable Dock on iPad
  • A redesigned app switcher for iPad making it easier to move between pairs of active apps, used in Split View and now Slide Over
  • Easier File Storage and Access:

  • A new Files app to keep everything in one place, whether files are stored locally, in iCloud Drive or across other providers like Box, Dropbox and more
  • Drag and Drop is now available across the system, meaning moving images and text is easier than ever

  • Siri can now translate English words and phrases into Chinese, French, German, Italian or Spanish
  • Siri will now offer a more personalised experience by analysing personal usage of Safari, News, Mail, Messages and more. For example, as Siri learns topics or places a user is interested in while browsing Safari, they will be suggested when typing in Mail, Messages and other apps
  • Professional Camera and Photos Features:

  • New Loop and Bounce effects make every photo more expressive
  • Portrait Mode images can be taken with optical image stabilization, True Tone flash and HDR, so every shot looks even more professional
  • A new Long Exposure mode for capturing time and movement
