Goldie may have accidentally confirmed that Banksy is Massive Attack's Robert Del Naja

Legendary drum and bass DJ Goldie may have revealed the identity of anonymous street artist Banksy. Speaking on Scroobius Pip’s Distraction Pieces podcast on Tuesday, he accidentally let slip that Banksy’s real name is Robert.

He said: "Give me a bubble letter and put it on a T-shirt and write 'Banksy' on it and we’re sorted. We can sell it now," and then went on quickly to say "No disrespect to Robert, I think he is a brilliant artist. I think he has flipped the world of art over."

Many people are speculating that "Robert" refers to Massive Attack’s Robert Del Naja. Goldie and Robert are old friends, and Goldie has previously cited Del Naja's artwork as an influence to him.

As well as being a founding member of Massive Attack, De Naja is involved in the art world creating pieces under the name 3D.

Del Naja has long been rumoured to be man behind Banksy. The Daily Mail published an article back in September stating he was likely the head of a group of artists who all contributed to Banksy’s work.

So unless this is all part of a master plan on behalf of the real Banksy, it looks like Goldie may have just let the cat out of the bag. Maybe it’s time Banksy just revealed himself to the world…
