Parisian boutique Colette has announced that it will be closing its doors after 20 years of business.

"As all good things must come to an end, after 20 wonderful years, Colette should be closing its doors on December 20 of this year," reads a statement from the company. "Colette Roussaux has reached the time when she would like to take her time; and Colette cannot exist without Colette."

Saint Laurent are currently speaking to Colette about taking over the space, despite their previous clash over a collection of parody t-shirts. "Negotiations are under way with Saint Laurent and we would be proud to have a brand with such a history, with whom we have frequently collaborated, taking over our address," continues the statement. "We are happy of the serious interest expressed by Saint Laurent in this project, and it could also represent a very good opportunity for our employees."

Since it was founded in 1997 by Colette Roussaux, the three-storey 8,000-square-foot store has been praised for its mix of brands, featuring up-and-coming designers alongside small gadgets, a wide range of books and magazines, and revered brands like Chanel. The store was also one of the first to stock collections by brands including Off-White, Proenza Schouler, Mary Katrantzou, Simone Rocha and Rodarte.

"My partnership with Colette defined my career," said Virgil Abloh, the founder and creative director of Off-White, when speaking to Business of Fashion. "Off-White couldn't exist if Colette didn't exist. She was definitively the first buyer to place an order for my brand, and the first to do an event."

In recent years the store has been led by Colette Roussaux's daughter, Sarah Andelman. In a statement, Andelman said that online store colette.fr will also be closing and she will be focussing on "turning the page."
