Horror classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has already had a number of very disappointing sequels, prequels and reboots, but the announcement of Leatherface and in particular the directors involved with Leatherface, Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, has got many people thinking that finally there will be a new film from the franchise that’ll be worth watching.

French pair Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo were the directors of the highly-regarded slasher film Inside from 2007, and Leatherface will serve as their Hollywood debut. The trailer looks very promising and very bloody, with the early days of the infamous psychopathic killer known as Leatherface being teased throughout.

Take a look at the trailer above and check out the synopsis for the prequel below:

"In Texas, years before the events of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, in the early days of the infamous Sawyer family, the youngest child is sentenced to a mental hospital after a suspicious incident leaves the sheriffs’ daughter dead. Ten years later, he kidnaps a young nurse and escapes with 3 other inmates. Pursued by authorities including the deranged sheriff out to avenge his daughter’s death, the young Sawyer teen goes on a violent road trip from hell, molding him into the monster known now as Leatherface."

Leatherface is out exclusively with DirecTV on 21 September, with a limited theatrical run coming on 20 October.
