The Pantone Colour Institute has created a new shade of purple in honour of late music great Prince.
Prince became synonymous with the colour purple following the release of his incredible album and film Purple Rain in 1984. He then styled himself with purple instruments and outfits throughout the rest of his career, earning him the name "The Purple One".
The new colour is represented by Prince’s "Love Symbol #2" and comes inspired by his custom-made Yamaha purple piano. Speaking about the new shade of purple in a statement, Vice President of the Pantone Colour Institute Laurie Pressman said:
"We are honored to have worked on the development of Love Symbol #2, a distinctive new purple shade created in memory of Prince, ‘the purple one.’ A musical icon known for his artistic brilliance, Love Symbol #2 is emblematic of Prince’s distinctive style. Long associated with the purple family, Love Symbol #2 enables Prince’s unique purple shade to be consistently replicated and maintain the same iconic status as the man himself."
