As the "ugly sneaker" trend shows no sign of slowing down, high-end fashion label Balenciaga has presented a collaboration with the famously-mocked shoe brand Crocs.

The rather cartoonish 10cm-platform version of the slip-on sandal was designed by Balenciaga's Demna Gvasalia and was presented on the runway in Paris as part of the brand's Spring 2018 women’s Pre-A-Porter show. Available in yellow, pink, and a muted green (and probably more), the shoe can be customised with various rubberised pins that attach to the perforated upper.

"It's a very innovative shoe. It's light, it's a one-piece foam mould and to me these kind of techniques and working with these kind of materials is very Balenciaga," said Gvasalia to Vogue. "In the future you will be able to 3D print them at home because they are all one piece."

Designers like Christopher Kane have also collaborated with Crocs, but so far they've been unable to shake their uncool image and remain the staple footwear choice of people who need practical, comfy shoes, like chefs. What do you think? Will people be shelling out top-dollar for these come Spring 2018?
