Disney have held talks to acquire most of 21st Century Fox according to a report by CNBC. The deal is said to be for Fox’s entertainment divisions, with the company looking to focus on its more profitable areas of news and sports programming.

CNBC say talks have been held in the last few weeks, and that although they are currently not talking at this moment "given the on again, off again nature of the talks, they could be revisited."

If a deal is made, it would create a Hollywood powerhouse with Disney taking ownership of the likes of The Planet Of The Apes and X-Men franchises to add to its own portfolio of blockbuster hits which includes Star Wars and animation studio Pixar.

As well as the movie studio, a deal would include Fox-owned TV networks like FX and National Geographic.

The Simpsons, owned by Fox, actually predicted the deal in an episode. Check out a screenshot below on Twitter via Ryan W. Mead.
