Netflix has shared the first full trailer for Wormwood directed by renowned documentary filmmaker Errol Morris.

The term documentary is used a bit loosely, as Wormwood sort of is and it sort of isn’t. It includes traditional documentary-style interviews with real-life figures, as well as dramatic reenactments of parts of the story starring the likes of Peter Sarsgaard, Molly Parker and Bob Balaban.

The film looks into the case of Frank Olson, a bacteriologist working for the CIA who after being secretly dosed with LSD as a part of an experiment dies falling from the window of a New York hotel room.

Directed by boundary-breaking filmmaker Errol Morris, Wormwood explores the limits of knowledge about the past and the lengths we’ll go in our search for the truth through the story of one man’s sixty-year quest to identify the circumstances of his father’s mysterious death. Combining a virtuosic performance by Peter Sarsgaard with Morris’ legendary interview style, Wormwood examines this case from every possible angle, bringing the viewer face-to-face with some of the United States’ darkest secrets.

Wormwood is out on Netflix 15 December.
