Vine could be making a return!

Twitter's much-loved, now defunct social media app Vine could be making a return!

It's co-founder, Dom Hofmann, has posted a mysterious tweet which simply reads "v2" and features a logo with the same mint green colour as Vine. The lettering also makes use of the same font as the original Vine logo. The news follows an announcement back in November that he was working on a "follow up" to the original app:

"I’m going to work on a follow-up to Vine," he said. "I've been feeling it myself for some time and have seen a lot of tweets, DMs, etc. […] I’m funding it myself as an outside project, so it doesn’t interfere with the (quite exciting) work we’re doing at the company, which is my first priority […] Nothing else to share yet, but more as it develops."

Despite being used (and loved) by millions, Twitter decided to kill off the social network, which used 6-second videos, in January 2017. It's unclear why exactly the app was scrapped, especially when it had so many active users who were passionate about the format, but it may be due to an exodus by its top 1% of users. Many top "Viners", such as Logan Paul, began to shift over to platforms like YouTube, where it's possible to make more revenue from your content.

Twitter paid a reported $30 million for the Vine app in October 2012, before it had even launched.
