Trailer: A Futile And Stupid Gesture

Netflix has just unveiled a new trailer for A Futile And Stupid Gesture, a biopic on National Lampoon creator Doug Kenney.

The infamous comedy magazine rose to fame in the 70s thanks to its controversial covers, surreal content and parodies. It also grew into a film business producing classic comedies like Animal House, Caddyshack and the Vacation movies.

A Futile And Stupid Gesture looks to be far from a traditional biopic, with the trailer showing a few of the classic National Lampoon covers, the filming of Caddyshack, the long list of people who hated them and a present day Doug Kenney (who actually died in his 30s) pointing out inaccuracies within the film to the camera.

Check out the official synopsis from Netflix below:

"A Futile and Stupid Gesture is the story of comedy wunderkind Doug Kenney, who co-created the National Lampoon, Caddyshack, and Animal House. Kenney was at the center of the 70’s comedy counter-culture which gave birth to Saturday Night Live and a whole generation's way of looking at the world."

The film has an impressive cast list featuring the likes of Will Forte, Domhnall Gleeson, Emmy Rossum, Matt Walsh, Natasha Lyonne, Thomas Lennon, Martin Mull, and Joel McHale.

It's out on 26 January, 2018 exclusively on Netflix.
