Kodak, the 130-year-old photography company, is set to launch its very own cryptocurrency called KodakCoin. The company plan to create a new platform for digital photography using blockchain technology to help photographers share their work.

The site is called KodakOne and is said to be a "new economy" for photographers which will make it simple to license work and receive payments via KodakCoin.

Kodak CEO Jeff Clarke said in statement: "Kodak has always sought to democratize photography and make licensing fair to artists. These technologies give the photography community an innovative and easy way to do just that."

Shares of Kodak surged after the announcement, with the price more than doubling at the end of trading on Tuesday (9 January).
