The Cure's Robert Smith is curating Meltdown Festival 2018

The Southbank Centre event is now in its 25th year.

The Cure’s Robert Smith has been announced as the curator of Meltdown Festival 2018.

The artist-curated event held at London’s Southbank Centre is now in it’s 25th year, with past curators including John Peel, David Bowie, Nick Cave, Patti Smith, Yoko Ono and David Byrne, with last year’s festival curated by M.I.A.

Speaking via press release, Smith said:

"I am honoured and excited to be curating the 25th Meltdown Festival. More than 30 of my all time favourite artists – some of the most exciting, inspirational, intense and influential performers of the last 40 years – will make sure this ten-night extravaganza at London’s Southbank Centre is the ‘must see’ event of the summer!"
