Porsche introduces the all-electric Mission E Cross Turismo

Porsche are setting themselves up to take on Tesla in a big way, adding an all-electric four-door, all-wheel-drive saloon to its line of Mission E concept cars.

While this is still in the concept stages, Porsche says the Mission E Cross Turismo will be released in 2019 and will boast a 0-62mph time of just 3.5 seconds, a 300 mile range, 600-hp, and an 80% recharge time of just 15 minutes, meaning it's set to give the Mosel S a run for its money. What's more, Porsche promises the car will be able to maintain it's lightning fast acceleration even when the battery is fairly depleted, something Teslas can't currently achieve.

Although it's clearly been styled with Porsche's unmistakable aesthetic, the Cross Turismo has been adapted to make it a more effective EV and features minor adjustments to its design, such as headlamp that acts like an air intake to help cool the battery.

"Porsches need dramatic proportions in width-to-height. In an EV you have the battery in the floor for driving dynamics, but you need to package the people on top. That drives the height of the car. This is a big, big challenge," said Michael Mauer, chief designer at Porsche, when speaking to Top Gear.

An official release date and price is yet to be announced, but expect this to be hitting roads sometime next year.
