IKEA continues its streak of collaborations, this time teaming up with Dutch designer Piet Hein Eek for a range that turns the usual industrial process on its head.

Each piece in the limited edition range, named "Industriell", has been designed to look slightly different or deliberately imperfect. "When I graduated from design school there was a great drive for perfection in design," Hein Eek explains. "If you made a thousand copies they all had to be identical, and there was nothing in the design that hadn’t been put in there by the designer himself. I wanted to strip that idea away, and make objects feel more human and personal while still having an industrial production process."

When creating the chair, bench and tables, Hein Eek purposefully chose a type of pine wood that would normally be considered waste, while for the ceramics and glassware he hand created different moulds and machines, giving the collection a mismatched feel.

The IKEA x Piet Hein Eek Industriell collection is available from IKEA stores now.
