Kickstarter campaign launched for slices of ketchup

You may think ketchup already does its job pretty well, acting as a worthy companion for bacon sandwiches, chips, burgers and pretty much anything else you want to splash it on, but Emily Williams has different ideas.

The Los Angeles-based food entrepreneur has just launched a Kickstarter campaign for Slice of Sauce, a creation which is pretty much exactly what it sounds like – a single "slice" of ketchup.

In the campaign video Williams and her business partner Thac Lecong explain they came across the solid, sliceable ketchup while experimenting with family recipes and realised they just invented a "no-mess, portable condiment that adds a layer of flavor to anything from burgers and sandwiches to wraps and burritos".

The final product comes in packaging similar to pre-sliced cheese (a product which is, arguably, also unnecessary) and, when removed, resembles a strip of dried fruit.

The Kickstarter has already broken through its 10,000 goal with 21 days to go, with all money going towards high quality ingredients, packaging and equipment rental. In return backers receive samples, merchandise, and even (if they give enough) an honorary chef title. This may be another gimmick that ends up using yet more plastic, but who are we to judge when we haven't even sampled it? Perhaps it will be the best thing since sliced bread...
