Instagram ditches its Apple Watch app

Reports are coming out that Instagram's latest update for its Apple Watch app, which states it's for "general bug fixes and performance improvements", simply removes the app completely.

Instagram follows in the footsteps of Twitter, Google, Amazon, and Slack, all of whom have struggled to find success with Apple Watch apps. Many companies note that Watch users simply want a notification and then opt to use their smartphone or tablet for scrolling through feeds or posting content as the Watch screen is to small for such functions.

9to5Mac also suggest the app has been removed due to new restrictions from Apple, which now requires developers to use the watchOS 2 SDK or later. The existing Instagram app was created with WatchKit 1.0.
