American Dream is an ongoing project by artist Assaf Shaham which sees national US monuments, sculptures and buildings digitally disfigured and stretched skyward. Take a look at more in the series here.

- Someone half a world away is digitally vandalizing memories...and people actually think it's brilliant??? Its not even talented vandalism, like some graffiti is...this person's "work" requires practically no effort or even imagination. Oh, believe me, I get the point: "You people think so highly of yourselves...well, watch Assaf here laugh at the things most important to you." Damn it, I am so tired of U.S. Americans eating up all this anti-U.S. "art"! Hey Assaf! How about I place some fecal matter on a map and cover up Israel? Oh, but no, that would be "intolerant"...that's something an "ugly American" would do for shock value! Honestly, I don't even have to go that far. Keep making "art" like this, and pretty soon you will cover your own country in metaphorical $#!+. No outside help necessary.

- I don't understand the reason for all this hate. What's wrong with using a scanner? Are these works that offensive? That bad? If photographs are valid as artwork why wouldn't something produced with a scanner be valid as well? As far as I'm aware, from the day that french guy got an urinal, put it on its side and called it a work of art, anything goes! I'm way more offended by guys like Peter Sutherland who get credit for putting out mediocre work after mediocre work and all you hipsters just bag it like there is a superior force who tells you what's acceptable and what's not. I can't wait for this art trend for the masses is over, just like the time when everyone was a DJ.

- @aj @marc I have no problem with simplicity. I have a problem with laziness. But there's a bigger issue here. I get the distinct impression that someone is saying to me: "Your perception of yourself, your country and your values is distorted and inflated. You think you're bigger (better, more important) than you are." And maybe it's a guilty conscience or oversensitivity. Basically, I feel like someone just told me, "Hey Roxie, you and the US ain't nuthin!" I think that insults CAN be artistic, and I do enjoy dark, taboo political satire...but I find this guy's work the equivalent of a Yo Mama joke. Hence the hate. It's insulting AND it's lazily done. Also, about my previous comment, I don't actually have a problem with Israel...just apparently a problem with this particular...um..."artist". Also @marc Ugh, why did you make me Google Peter Sutherland? j/k I agree with you 100%. Terrible stuff...makes this guy look like Salvador Dal?.

- I enjoyed reading people's reaction to this.. Always the same bullshit that comes from fear. It's clear to say that this guy will never be a major artist because a majority of his work lacks aesthetic or good taste. Obviously you will get the odd dickhead who will throw all his cash at this guy but hey.. - However, I don't understand why people automatically equate hard work with making something beautiful..I think it's a flaw of this "hard working ethic" whereby hard work is good work, and thus makes beautiful art - total inadequacy between these two aspects. I think this guy's Buildings are good, although clearly easy to make.. they work, they're cool..fine - he won't be shitting on american art because he won't have enough agency on history to ever leave a trace
