  • Among other artists, former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne will be showing work at "Social Media" - an exhibition that opens at New York's Pace Gallery next month. Byrne's series is made up from fake, satirical, iPhone apps he designed.

As well as his new App series, Byrne will also be exhibiting "Democracy in Action, 2011" - a multi-media installation consisting of 20 digital frames, each shuffling images of arguing parliamentarians taken from the Internet.

"The idea of pictures in sequence has been around for a long time. Photo essays, photo books and slide shows all support the idea that multiple views of something, someone or someplace add a kind of cubist depth. I realized that this possibility had become something anyone could make at home and display for their friends and family with the advent of these (somewhat) cheap digital frames. I liked the idea of taking this consumer technology, this gadget with somewhat tacky and sentimental associations, and tweaking it a little."

Other artists in the show include Christopher Baker, Aram Bartholl, Jonathan Harris, Robert Heinecken, Miranda July & Harrell Fletcher, Sep Kamvar and Penelope Umbrico. Check out some of Byrne's ideas below.

The show will open on 16 September and will run through to 15 October, 2011.
