In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Dov Charney - the founder of American Apparel - said that due to increased pressure to produce cheaper clothes they might have to start outsourcing some of their manufacturing work to overseas.
This would be a full 180 for the brand's business model, which has always been about promoting American workmanship and employing Americans at their vertically integrated LA factory. Nothing is confirmed yet so we'll keep you up to date!

- i think AA are a slowly sinking ship. they peaked, what, 4 or 5 years ago, and since they've been changing the brand to try and match trends rather than hone anything individual. if they'd spent more time improving their product quality and less time checking blogs then maybe things would be different. i used to own a lot of AA stuff but most of it's now on ebay because i discovered real clothes.
