In just a few short years, streaming service Spotify have risen to become the second largest source of revenue for all major record labels. Of course, beating them to the topspot is Apple's iTunes.
With the success of Spotify (there are now 23 million people using the service each month), many are expecting Apple to release a streaming service of their own to compete. The app could easily be built in with iTunes and their iOS systems, making it easily available to millions of people.
There has been controversy over the amount Spotify pay to artists and record labels however, with the Mercury Award-nominated artist Jon Hopkins famously tweeting "Got paid £8 for 90,000 plays. Fuck Spotify." Although, if they're beating physical record sales in terms of revenue, it can't be all bad?

- Spotify is fine, I have been using it since it came about. Their wikitunes app has its faults though. It allows you to insert lyrics into a Karaoke style scroll for singing. You can also sync it as well. The problem I have is that it will no longer let me add lyrics to tunes that do not have them. I contacted support, but they told me it was not up to them as it was a third party app. Apart from that, it is great. Fantastic for parties and private events. Although there are a few artist that I can only suppose that they do not want their tunes on spotify.
