• LIFE: World War II - Pictures We Remember
  • Posted 27 months ago by Jack Lowe · Art & Design · 16596 Views
  • For many, World War II was the biggest single event of their lives, transforming the world more than any other recorded conflict in history. "Cities were obliterated; national borders altered; revolutionary and, in some cases, fearsome military, medical, communication and transportation technology invented; and , of course, tens of millions were killed — the majority of them civilians." During the six years the war lasted, LIFE magazine covered the event more than any other publication, with 21 photographers spending a combined total of 13,000 days outside of the US - most of that time spent right in the combat zones.

In tribute to the people who lost their lives, as well as the journalists who risked theirs, LIFE.com have delved into their archives to present some of the most memorable images created during that time.
