Facebook will soon let you add music to your profile, just like MySpace

Facebook Music Profile

Taking a leaf out of MySpace’s book, Facebook has announced it’s working on a new feature which will allow users to add music to their profile.

The news coincides with the launch of “Music on Facebook Stories”, which, as the name might suggest, lets you add songs to the photos and videos you share on your stories.

In the new feature, users will be able to select specific tracks they like which will then be pinned to the top of their profile, as well as appearing in a new music section that helps friends “learn more about you.” From there, Facebook will promote the artist by allowing a portion of the song to be played, as well as an accompanying video that will showcase artist imagery and album art.

The move essentially allows Facebook to tap into the huge music market and begin competing with services like Spotify, while not having to build out an entire app. There’s no news on the exact release date yet but we would expect it to be launching later this year.
