Though traditional print media may have been going through a major shift in recent years,  the fact that it’s still with us, competing alongside smartphones and tablets, is proof that there’s something special about sitting down and opening up a newspaper.

Newspaper Design – a new book from Gestalten – delves into exactly that, examining the forces that shaped newspapers into something we enjoy reading each morning. “Following the shift to digital, the role of visual journalists has evolved,” says Gestalten. “As our reading habits change, so do the ways in which designers deal with typography, grid systems and illustration in order to tell a story in the most engaging way.”

Unique insights from the professionals behind influential newspaper like the New York Times, the Guardian, and Libération are paired alongside outstanding visual examples that  “reveal the inner workings of the news industry”.

Newspaper Design is available now.
