Netflix has given fans a first glimpse at its upcoming sixth season of House of Cards, which had to quickly restructure when star Kevin Spacey was fired due to the sexual misconduct allegations made against him.
There’s no doubt then that the new season will be a decidedly different without President Frank Underwood taking centre stage. Instead, it looks like Frank’s wife, Claire Underwood (played by Robin Wright), will become the main character. While the plot isn’t at all revealed in these first images and the earlier teaser, we do see Claire standing behind the desk of the Oval Office, looking directly down the lens, much like Frank Underwood did for many of his third-wall breaking speeches, suggesting that she will be stepping into his shoes.
One of the main questions left unanswered is how the show will address the sudden disappearance of Frank. We won’t give away the end of Season 5 for those who haven’t yet seen it, but luckily for the producers it did give quite a nice opportunity to wrap up Frank Underwood’s character, so it’s possible they will kill him off between seasons. Who knows? We’ll have to wait and see when Season 6 arrives on Netflix later this year.
