British comedian Jack Whitehall will be starring alongside Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson aka. The Rock in The Jungle Cruise – a new film from Disney which will reportedly star the studio’s first ever openly gay character.

A source for The Sun described the character as “hugely effete, very camp and very funny” man who “makes clear he has no interest in women”.

Not a huge deal is known about the film, but it’s has the same name as a Disneyland ride, suggesting it will follow travellers as they take a boat ride through a dangerous jungle. It’s also believed it will be set in the 19th century – a time when it wasn’t socially acceptable to be gay.

“I’m so honoured to be part of this epic adventure,” he said. “Filming is underway and I am having the time of my life with my amazing co stars […] It’s so cool to be part of something of this scale and also as possibly one of the biggest Disney nerds on the planet so exciting to be working on a project with this much history […] I can’t wait for you to see this film…”

  1. But aren’t you pigeon holing the gay comunity by having this person be effete, campy and funny! Your saying gay people are this way and should be this way!
In reality many gay people are quiet and non effete, not campy or funny. Please don’t stereo type all gay people into this box. They have so many personalities, interests, and should not be boxed into the funny person. That’s what they did to fat people and people of color too!
