Robert Johnson, born in the mountains 26 years ago claims to own a dog that can throw a ball, he also takes photos. Robert's work will be exhibited at the 107 Gallery in Toronto very soon, as well as being made into a book called Dance Dance. His pictures always have an extreme energy to them which always captures my attention. Robert shot this series of polaroids while on a trip across America with fellow photographers Jackson Eaton and Benjamin Acree, a book of the series will be available soon through the shop. On the trip they drove 13,000 miles, zigzagging their way across the country in a Mazda MPV, shooting every day. Until we get to see the full series, here is an exclusive set of pictures for HUH. with captions by the man himself.
We stayed in Jemez NM at the-only-Native-American-to-win-a-Pulitzer-prize house, Scott Momaday. The house was very old, first it was the missionary priests house, a few manifestations later it was a whore house, a few manifestations later it was his and it was absolutely haunted. Anyway, he collects old west paraphernalia and this is Billy the Kid's pistol. I think that you can actually see it on his hip in the Wikipedia photo.
The south is beautiful, rolling hills and clouds, the smell of fresh cut grass. This is Ben living the dream.
I don't remember off hand where we found this. But, an SS Camaro with a bush growing through it is out there somewhere.
Centralia PA was an old mining town before the mine caught fire 50 years ago and the town was evacuated. One homestead, convinced the fire is a conspiracy by the US gov to take their rights to the mine, remains. Everywhere the ground is broken open and smoking, evidence of the still burning fire below. This bit of timeless graffiti is on a stretch of highway that is hidden back in the hills.
This is Jackson Eaton living the Miller High Life. Unfortunately he set his beer down out of the frame or I would have sold this to Miller for the rights to everyone's children.
A large bust of a purple cow was advertising a defunct establishment as the storm began.
We found this poor guy in White Sands NM chasing after Ryan McGinley who had apparently left him behind the photo-gang-caravan due to an argument about Daniil Kharms that, it seems, had become quite personal.
"AHA" said his wife, "you say nothing and shake your head because your mouth is full of butter!"

- Lost Ansel Adams Negative Plates
- In 1937, Ansel Adams' darkroom caught fire which near destroyed its entire contents. However, a set of plates survived which Adams then managed to lose. Almost 90 years later, the plates were discovered and bought for $45 in a garage sale; they are now estimated to be worth around $200 million. The artworks will be unveiled at David W. Streets' gallery in Beverly Hills this evening.
