The latest publication to come from Chinese publishers Good Morning Light is the beautiful 52 page book Sleepwalk, by photographer Zheng Yaohua.
Zheng was born and raised in Shanghai, China and studied Chinese Language at Shanghai Normal University where he received his BA in 1985. In 2003, he moved to New York City and quickly found his feet with his urban landscape focussed photography, having his work published in 28mm: OFFLINE and being awarded with first place at a Queens Museum of Art contest.
Sleepwalk is the photographer's debut book and it's a highly accomplished publication. Throughout the book we're taken in a trance-like state around a dream filled New York City. When we arrive everything is silent, people move around us without making a noise. No one looks us in the eye, no one even notices we're there. Strange things are happening, dozens of people cross the street dressed as angels and no one bats an eyelid. After wandering through the secret areas of Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn we go down to the subway and embark on a silent journey out to the sea. With long shadows on the sandy beach, we wake up before sunset.
The book was printed in an edition of 500 so if you want a chance of getting one head over to our shop. If you live in Japan you can also pick up a copy at the book of days online shop in Niigata.
