Over the past seven seasons historical fantasy series Game of Thrones has risen to become the most watched show in the US among the coveted 18 to 49-year-old demographic. Sadly, for both fans of the show and its network HBO, it’s due to come to a conclusion with the release of Season 8 next year, but HBO could never let such a money-magnet truly die. That’s why it’s now commissioned a plot for a possible spin-off.
Speaking to CNN, a spokesperson for HBO confirmed the spin-off would be a prequel, set thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones. It would chronicle “the world’s descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.” It has been created by original Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin alongside British screenwriter Jane Goldman, who also worked on the screenplays for hits like Kick-Ass and the Kingsman films.
A release date and official title for the prequel are yet to be announced.
