A thin, foot-long lens that gives photographers a “new perspective”

Camera lens brand Venus Optics have just unveiled a bizarre looking new design – a thin, foot-long camera lens that’s been designed to give photographers and filmmakers a “new perspective” by allowing them to get closer to their subjects than a traditional macro lens. It can also focus as close as 2cm and features a USB-powered ring LED light on the end of the lens to illuminate your subject at close range.

“Thanks to the 40cm (15.7″) long barrel, you can focus really close to the subject but still keep yourself and your camera distance away,” says Venus Optics. This feature is super useful and makes your macro shooting so much easier.”

The lens, named the Laowa 24mm f/14 2x Macro Probe, is currently seeking backing through Kickstarter and, if successful, should be released to early supporters by October this year. When it’s officially released and available to buy, it will set you back $1,500 USD (currently $1,300 USD on Kickstarter) and is offered with adapters for Canon EF, Nikon F, and Sony FE mounts.
