Aston Martin has just unveiled the Rapide AMR – the bigger, more expensive brother of the standard Rapide S.
The powerful four-door saloon sports the same naturally aspirated 6.0-litre V12 engine as the Rapide S and matches both the 4.2 second 0-60mph time and the 205mph top speed (OK, the Rapide S is slightly slower topping out at 203mph), but manages to find 50bhp extra through enhanced gearbox calibration and enhanced airflow to the engine.
Additional aerodynamic bodywork includes carbonfibre splitter, sills, rear diffuser and bootlid lip spoiler, and the whole thing sits 10mm closer to the road than the Rapide S. That’s all been paired with 21-inch wheels – a first for Aston Martin – carbon-ceramic brakes, and Michelin Super Sport tyres. Design scheme wise, three options will be available – Standard, Silhouette and Signature – the last of which is the one you see here with green paint and lime accents.
On the inside, you’ll find a carbon fibre centre console and logo stitched seats lined with the super-soft Alcanatara material.
All these extras mean the Rapide AMR will set you back £194,950, over £45,000 more than the Rapide S. Personally, for the same engine and same 0-60mph time, we wouldn’t bother shelling out the extra cash, although production will be limited to just 210 cars. No doubt Aston Martin hasn’t struggled to find buyers. The first deliveries are due this Autumn.
