After briefly making headlines when he was accused of sexual misconduct at the beginning of the year, comedian Aziz Ansari is returning to the stage with a new stand-up show in the US.
Named “Aziz Ansari Working Out New Material”, the performances are due to take place next month (September 2018) at the Charleston Gaillard Center in Charleston, the Tennessee Theatre in Knoxville, and the Tivoli Theatre in Chattanooga.
The accusations were made by a woman simply known as “Grace” on Babe.net in which she claimed Ansari initiated sexual activity with her despite verbal and non-verbal cues that she was not interested. In response, Ansari issued a statement saying that he had believed everything was conceptual. “It was true that everything did seem okay to me, so when I heard that it was not the case for her, I was surprised and concerned,” he wrote. “I took her words to heart and responded privately after taking the time to process what she had said.”
These aren’t actually Ansari’s first shows since the controversy, having already given an unannounced set at the Comedy Cellar in New York City, as well as performing at various venues in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, however he has kept his head relatively low since the allegations.
