While promoting his new film Ford v Ferrari, actor Christian Bale has revealed that he turned down a fourth Batman film when Warner Bros. came to him with a pitch.
“Chris [director Christopher Nolan] had always said to me that if we were fortunate to be able to make three we would stop. ‘Let’s walk away after that,’ he said,” explained Bale when speaking to the Toronto Sun. “Then when they inevitably came to us and said, ‘How about a No. 4?’ I said, ‘No. We have to stick to Chris’s dream, which was always to, hopefully, do a trilogy. Let’s not stretch too far and become overindulgent and go for a fourth’.”
The move is being seen as a positive one by fans of the trilogy and it’s refreshing to see a high profile actor take a strong stance and refuse to push a film too far, ending things on high note instead of chasing more box office dollars.
