The Boring Company has been hard at work beneath the streets of Los Angeles, digging out a rapid transit tunnel that will help people avoid the city’s notorious traffic problems. Now, the company’s founder, Elon Musk, has taken to Twitter to say the tunnel will be open on 10 December and will beginning offering the public free rides the next day.

The current tunnel stretches for two-miles in Hawthorne, California, and is acting as a “proof of concept” for larger projects. Once inside the tunnel, vehicles will be transported on “skates” and will be autonomously transported at speeds of up to 155 mph.

There are already plans for a second tunnel in LA, which would transport Dodgers fans from Los Feliz or East Hollywood and the ballpark within about 4 minutes, and another that would connect downtown Chicago to O’Hare International Airport.
