After the abrupt departure of founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, parent company Facebook has announced the new head of Instagram – Adam Mosseri.

Adam Mosseri has been at the company for 10 years and, prior to his new role, was the vice president of product. Previous to that he held a vice president role managing Facebook’s News Feed.

“We are thrilled to hand over the reins to a product leader with a strong design background and a focus on craft and simplicity — as well as a deep understanding of the importance of community,” said Systrom and Krieger in a press release. “These are the values and principles that have been essential to us at Instagram since the day we started, and we’re excited for Adam to carry them forward.”

It’s still unclear what exactly led to Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger leaving Instagram, but  it’s believed to be down to Facebook’s continued meddling with the company. According to The Verge’s editor Chris Welch, one point of contention was the “hamburger menu”, which Mike Krieger was never a fan of but Facebook insisted on.

What Facebook and Mosseri have planned for Instagram is unknown, but it does seem like Facebook will become more involved in the photo-sharing app, rolling out new features and design changes without any pushback from the co-founders. We’ll have to wait and see…
