Federer and Serena Williams to go head-to-head for the first time

It’s been revealed that tennis stars Roger Federer and Serena Williams will meet on court for the first time during the Hopman Cup on New Year’s Day. The face off will take place in a mixed doubles match with partners Belinda Bencic and Frances Tiafoe.

“It is very exciting for both of us and I hope a lot of tennis fans tune in and watch it,” said Federer, while Williams added it was a “dream come true”.

Both the players are 37-years-old and at the top of their game, with a combined 43 Grand Slam titles, already making this one of the most talked about male vs female games since the “Battle of the Sexes” in 1973.

“I admire everything she’s done on and off the court, we are both fierce competitors and we always want to win,” added Federer. “It is going to be one time, probably never again. She is one of the biggest champions in our sport ever – men and women combined – so it is great to be playing against her.”
