As we move into the coldest months of the year, French Connection has unveiled a warm, comforting, and effortless Autumn/Winter collection inspired by the life and work of influential New York artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.
Elements of the seminal artist’s unique neo-expressionist style can be found throughout the range, from the use of bold colours such as “rooibos tea” and “calluna yellow” to silhouettes and prints influenced by the merging of hip hop, post punk and street art in 1980s New York.
Key pieces include a burnt red contrast check mohair jumper with matching scarf, and a bold calluna yellow blouson jacket, both of which can easily be paired back alongside a wide range of styles in more muted shades of grey, infantry green, midnight moss, and fathom blue. The denim range has also had a relaxed makeover, with well-worn slim and skinny styles being pushed aside in favour of a slightly wider, more contemporary fit – an aesthetic that’s grown in popularity over the past few years.
Fans of this style will be pleased to hear that the inspiration will continue into next year, with slogan t-shirts and graffiti-influenced designs making an appearance in the upcoming Spring/Summer 2019 collection.
You can shop the French Connection AW18 range now available from the brand’s online store and stores nationwide.
