HBO’s trailer for “Watchmen”

Having already given us a brief glimpse late last year, HBO has now revealed the first teaser trailer for its mini-series Watchmen.

Based on Alan Moore’s iconic 1986 graphic novel of the same name, the series has been created by Damon Lindelof, who says he didn’t want to make a straight up adaptation of the source material.

Instead, it looks like the group of masked vigilantes are now operating in the present day, rather than the ’80s. Little is given away in the one-minute clip, but it is clear that the authorities believed the vigilantes had gone for good, only o be confronted by them once more. “We convinced ourselves that they were gone,” says a police commander in the trailer. “But maybe they were just hibernating”.

The cast includes Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Jean Smart, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Hong Chau, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, and James Wolk.

Watchmen is scheduled to premiere on HBO in the autumn.
