Natalie Portman stars as a struggling pop star in “Vox Lux”

An intriguing two-minute trailer has been released for Vox Lux, a new film from promising young director Brady Corbet.

This brief teaser gives very little away and leaves the film open to possibilities, but we do know Natalie Portman stars in the lead role as an ageing pop star “struggling to navigate a career fraught with scandals” while simultaneously raising her teenage daughter.

“VOX LUX begins in 1999 when teenage sisters Celeste (Raffey Cassidy) and Eleanor (Stacy Martin) survive a seismic, violent tragedy,” reads the synopsis. “The sisters compose and perform a song about their experience, making something lovely and cathartic out of catastrophe — while also catapulting Celeste to stardom. By 2017, the now 31-year-old Celeste (Natalie Portman) is mother to a teenage daughter of her own and struggling to navigate a career fraught with scandals when another act of terrifying violence demands her attention.”

Based on what we’ve seen and know so far, it looks like this could be Portman’s shot at a second Best Actress Oscar. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
