Japanese design studio Nendo has created a children’s picture book that aims to explain how creative ideas are born.
Written in Japanese and titled “What is a cup?”, it tells the story of a little cup that has to solve the problem of not having a spoon and ends up taking a unique and fresh approach to the issue, turning itself into various forms.
“The overall message of the book is that even the smallest and seemingly boring things in our daily routine can enrich our lives and excite us when given a bit more attention,” said Nendo.
A range of physical objects were recreated from the book’s illustrations and were shown in an exhibition in Tokyo to launch the book.
The book is available in Japan. As far as we know there are no plans to translate it to English or another language.
