Former Bond actor Pierce Brosnan has revealed he believes it’s time for a woman to take over the role, saying “I think we’ve watched the guys do it for the last 40 years, get out of the way, guys, and put a woman up there.”
“I think it would be exhilarating, it would be exciting,” he added, speaking to The Hollywood Reporter.
The actor, who played the spy in GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, and Die Another Day, said the #MeToo movement has caused a dramatic, and necessary, shift in the way women are represented on screen.
“[It’s] been relevant and significant and well needed in our society, so they’ll have to address that,” he said, although he added that he couldn’t imagine a woman taking over with the current producers in charge.
The upcoming Bond, which once again has Daniel Craig at the helm, is expected to be released in April 2020.
