The Game of Thrones Season 8 premiere has smashed HBO’s viewing record

Deadline has revealed that the premiere for Season 8 of Game of Thrones has become the most watch episode in the channel’s history with a reported 17.4 million people tuning in to watch “Winterfell” on Sunday.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the previous record was also held by Game of Throneswhen the final episode of Season 7 garnered an audience of 16.5 million.

The figures also reveal that people are significantly moving away from HBO’s traditional channel and opting to watch through the company’s streaming services – HBO Go and HBO Now, which were up 50 percent since “The Dragon and the Wolf”.
