If you’re a fan of Westworld but haven’t got around to watching Season 2 yet, we won’t spoiler you here, but let’s just say a lot of people finished the season feeling the show was veering away from its central plot line, similar to Lost.
In response to everyone asking “are you just making all this up as you go along?”, Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy has promised that the writers do have an idea of where and how Westworld will finish.
“We have an ending in mind; we’ve had it from the pilot,” she said when speaking to Stuff. “It’s very emotional, I think. I can’t tell you exactly when that ending will come…but I think for every season what we try to do is tell a chapter of the story that gives you closure and then opens a door to a new chapter…The overarching question of the series is, what will become of this new lifeform? So I feel it would be irresponsible to not have an end goal in mind.”
The problem fans are beginning to have with Westworld, much like Lost, is that the series keeps asking questions but never gets around to answer them. Plenty was wrapped up at the end of Season 2, putting an end to the countless rumours that circulate on Reddit, but plenty of stuff was also still left up in the air. This approach can cause viewers to grow tired of a show and tune out, so let’s hope Season 3 is firmly on track towards a clear and satisfying ending.
